What moves the gold price in Egypt?
Gold is priced worldwide in US dollars per ounce. When the global ounce rises or falls, the price per gram in Egypt follows.
The price is then turned into Egyptian pounds, so the dollar's exchange rate matters as much as the ounce itself: a weaker pound means a higher gold price, even when the ounce does not move.
Local demand counts too. Ahead of weddings, holidays and when people look for a store of value, demand rises and the market price can move faster than the ounce.
Questions about the gold price
The buy price is what you pay per gram; the sell price is what we pay when you sell your gold back. The gap covers the cost of buying, storing and reselling the metal.

The karat is how much of the piece is pure gold, out of 24. 24K is about 99.9% gold, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%, so a gram of 21K costs less than a gram of 24K.
